Twilight Obsession

So I finally got around to going to see Twilight for the second time on Friday night.... The holidays were just too busy for repeat movie (theater) trips, and I've just been dying to obsess... So here's the funny thing:  I went again Saturday afternoon for the third time, then just stayed in the theater and watched it a fourth time.   Then when I got home, I took a hot bath, dropped a lush bomb in it, drank a glass of wine, and began to reread the first book.  By Sunday, I was watching poor quality snippets on the internet, and reading anything and everything Twilight or New Moon related that I could find on the internet.  I also downloaded the entire soundtrack to I-tunes.  I didn't get half of what I should have gotten done this week-end and by last night I was a blurry-eyed, seriously wiped out fangirl.

Resolutions for 2009

Head Kiss

I've been off LJ for a while, what with Nutcracker, Holiday travels and such, plus LJ is kind of my Prison Break place, and I just haven't been feeling it lately.   I still love the show, but not so much what it has become.  I guess that doesn't make much sense : (

Anyway, it is time for some new year's resolutions which I'm kind of hoping to write down here so that I won't forget later in the year what I was planning on doing:

1) Watch less TV  Watch only TV I really really like

2) Spend more time organizing the house - that means throwing more stuff out!

3) Finish home improvement projects

4) Take CPR course - after meeting the paramendic that saved my mom's life, and given that my Dad had to know what he was doing for those 8 minutes before he arrived... well it is just something that none of us can afford not to know.

5) Grow my fingernails out   Stop chewing my nails  :(

6) Work on my Spanish

7) Keep in touch (better touch) with far away friends and relatives - esp. Grandmas!

8) Keep a positive outlook

9) Read more - already doing that actually

10)  Plan for the future - go to school, ask lots of questions, don't let the sad economic outlook change my fate.

11) You are what you eat.  IE:  Try to eat healthy as much as possible.

12)  Cook at home more.

13) Stop procrastinating

Whaaaa-Hoooooo!

Today is the first time, in a long while that I have felt truly proud of my country.  It has been a long 8 years for this Democrat from California, but today I woke up to a new feeling of hope and inspiration.

So.... I don't do this very often, but I'm pimping this little show I started watching last year.   It is one of many shows that needs to improve ratings.  It is on after Prison Break tonight, but on NBC (here in the states) and stars the amazing and talented Sarah Shahi & Damien Lewis.  At first glance it could seem like another *le sigh* procedural cop show, but let me tell you it is SO MUCH MORE!  And how!

The small but devoted fandom that instantly seems to have sprung up reminds me of another show I love.  *Ah-hem* Anyway, let me get to the punch-line.  If you can watch it tonight, I'd recommend it, if not see if you can get your hands on the original Pilot.  I double dog dare you not to love it.

Charlie Crews and Dani Reese are both detectives, but both have an interesting history.  He (a cop when he was younger) was wrongly convicted of a double murder he didn't commit and spent 12 years in jail, before his name was cleared.   He was awarded a whopping sum of money for the years of his Life lost and a cushy "Detective" position as a consolation prize.  Nobody, however, actually wants him on the Police force.  There is a conspiracy behind his conviction and incarceration and he's determined to get to the bottom of it... She's the daughter of a retired and decorated former cop (detective? can't remember anything other than that he was involved in the conspiracy) and she's also an ex alcoholic and junkie (sound familiar? Complicated characters make for great TV!).  Apparently she was working a drug case, undercover, and ended up getting in "too deep."  Since they both have a checkered past, they are assigned to work together.  The result?  Hotter than hot.   Not better than MiSa but back in the HIAFB days?  It was a pretty damn good replacement.

Okay that was my pimping.  If you feel inclined to watch, please do :)

The Star- Tarot Card Meme results

You are The Star

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

 Meanings
The Star brings you the gift of pleasure in nature, of reasoned intuition and of shining hope. It reveals a loving phase, filled with calm energy and renewed understanding. It is a card of heavenly favours and a sense of being blessed. If you are currently experiencing difficulties or have been depressed or unwell, the Star augurs healing. Your ability to let go of damaging memories has been strengthened by contact with your true self. Hatred, envy, bitterness, and revenge have burned themselves out and no longer shadow your life or potential for future happiness. Now you are able to forgive and forget. Friendship is an important area governed by the Star. Your friends are especially previous to you now, and you may friend their presence in your life a source of great happiness.

Illumination. You need to be the star of your "show" and experience a time of joy, wonder, hope and healing. Relax and re-establish your connection with your body and the illumination of spiritual realities. Dwell on the good. People have always looked to the stars as a source of inspiration and hope. There is something about their twinkling light that draws us out of ourselves and up into a higher plane. When we turn our eyes heavenward, we no longer feel the distress of earth. The Star reminds me of the clear, high voice of a soprano. There is something other-worldly about it. All the harshness and density of everyday life has been refined away leaving only the purest essence. After being exposed to the Star, we feel uplifted and blessed.

In readings, the Star is most welcome when grief and despair have overwhelmed us. In our darkest moments, we need to know that there is hope and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Star is the opposite of the Devil who strips us of our faith in the future. Card 17 holds out the promise that we can eventually find peace of mind. The Star also reminds us to open our heart and release our fears and doubt. If you have been holding back in any way, now is the time to give generously. It is important to remember that the Star is inspiring, but it is not a card of practical solutions or final answers. Truly without hope we can accomplish nothing, but hope is only a beginning. When you see Card 17, know that you are on the right track. Your goals and your aspirations are blessed, but to realise them, you must take positive action. Use the light of the Star to guide you in your efforts.

You will become aware of how successful and respected you are. You may attain a goal that brings lasting happiness, or you may win a reward. Your reputation may be enhanced. A successful person may be involved.

The star represents the confidence of youth. The young girl is innocent in life, full of hope and inspiration. She is in anticipation of what will be. Want to find (or regain) a sense of meaning, inspiration, or purpose to your life and hope your future will be better than your past. It's the call of destiny that motivates you or compels you to go on. Your desire is NOT in vain, and that which you are yearning for will ultimately find fulfilment.

Courage, hope, and inspiration are in your life. Great love will be given and received. Wisdom, spiritual enlightenment, progress toward goals and knowing what these goals are.

SWC, you, my dearest Doc Awesome, are the best and I have a bit of a girl crush right now.

My parents-in-law arrived from Spain last night so the long winded thoughts and comments will have to wait until later.

Michael /Sara

When you see this, post a Douglas Adams quote.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

- Douglas Adams
Misa in the bed

So last week I was a little lukewarm about some aspects of PB 4.02 & 4.02 as it reinvents itself yet again... but a lot of that, I think, was just the fact that so much had to be explained in such a short amount of time that there wasn't as much room for show stealing moments (well except certain *wink* stuff that had to be done).  Anyway, I think you know what I mean :)  However, this was so not the case this week with "Shutdown" - 4.03 - where they seemed to really hit the ground running.  If this is a preview of what the rest of the season is going to be like, I'd just like to say, "baby I'm lovin' it!"

<lj-cut text="First all the things I loved:">
1.  Lincoln!  If Dom isn't one of the greatest untapped resources of this show (most of the time), I don't know who else is.  I loved all the little details they added that were so "Linc" to this episode - from bossing nerd boy around - to the sensitivity with which he handled Mahone - and oh, yeah, who could forget the way he went for the axe!  He was awesome!  When you get right down to it, character-wise, he's such a good opposition to most of Michael's intense brainiac behavior, and amusing too, I don't know why the writers don't make more of an effort ALL THE TIME to feature his bearish gentility.  I loved every moment of it.  Here's the funny part too, I've gotten an older friend of ours to lurve PB (she's my mom's age) and she texted me mid-episode to say "Linc is sooo cool!"   How great is that?

2.  Loved the way the "team" seemed to really gel in this episode.  Everyone always has something going on, plus there were agendas within agendas (like the way Linc was catching onto Mahone), or Bellick wanting to get the frak out of dodge,  that in the end it all just seemed to click beautifully.   The Chemistry of the entire group was spot on!

3.  I laughed out loud multiple times, which just amped up the enjoyment that much more.  I mean, "Dr. Feel Good?"  Seriously?  I love you PB!

4.  I already said that everyone always has something going on, but more than that not one character (except maybe T-bag at this point) seems superfluous.  I mean, one can see how say Bellick and Sucre are less of a necessity with regards to bringing something to the team, but since everyone is in their respective niche character-wise, it doesn't matter a bit.  In the end, believability is all about characters and the way they interact with each other and this episode is a great testament to that truth.  IMO, the rest of the show can just coast on that success alone.

5.  Mahone showing up out of nowhere and decoding things.  Mahone. Period.  I love how he seems to "intuit" that the shut down is coming and how that throws him even more out of whack.  I still can't believe they killed his son.  But I do love the additional layers that it adds to the storyline with Lincoln.

6.  I love love love that Sara catches on to Michael's deceptive behavior in the beginning.  This is actually great continuity imo.  I mean, granted, S1 was totally different when it comes to him deceiving her, but still she sees right through him no matter what.   Plus, I love the no BS way she asks him what is going on.  Sometimes the writers scare me on this show, but this time, they are spot on.

7.  Sara noticing Michael's *headache*... This actually has been really bothering me.  I feel like I can see the future with this one, and at some point she's going to be too wrapped up in her own stuff to notice what is going on with him - which I feel is totally out of character for both of them.  So the scene in the tunnel set me at ease, she might not be thinking it is medical yet, but at least he's got her attention.  I love that she is calm under pressure, still the voice of  reason.  She seems to ground him which, imo, adds another layer to their relationship.  We haven't seen them like this much, running, stressed, etc, AND talking.   I feel, very much, a call back to the Sara we saw in the infirmary with these two scenes which just generally makes me so so happy about the entire 4th season.

8. Okay, so a bit cheesy here, but I loved the part at the end where Self was letting everyone go.  I loved the drama unfolding between Michael and Sara, but also the way that Linc was all 'get your hands off me" with his body language.  I was half laughing, half tearing up at the same time.  I thought the little Michael/Sara moment was almost over the top, but at the same time, I really loved how they were looking at each other - and coming together-  across the sea of people.   It really was a sweet moment and well earned if you ask me.

Okay gotta run to work.  Hopefully more later </lj-cut>

PB Season 4.01 & 4.02 (thoughts, spoilers)

Head Kiss
You know as great as it was to see the show reinvent itself and to see Sara back again, still, there was something that verged on the ridiculous that kept preventing me from truly loving it.  It felt, I don't know, caperesque.  Can I say that?  Back in the good old days, it would be like watching all the incredible outlandish stuff that happened on Alias and really NOT believing it.  And boy was I ever a believer.  It is almost like they have over simplified some of the 'break in' 'break out' plot points.  I think they might need Marshall.  Because right now the success of the entire series is resting on them making this 'mission' believable and so far I'm not really feeling it.  Anyway... sighs, there was lots to love despite all of that.

-Did I need to watch Season 3?  Because right now it doesn't seem like I've missed a thing.

-Loved Bellick and Sucre and especially HIS MOM!  Whew!  Too cute.

-Loved Rapaport.  Great edition to the cast.  Why didn't they really kill Gretchen and save Whistler?  Because he is some serious eye candy.  yum.

- Loved Linc, Sophia and LJ acting all domestic in panama.

-Loved Linc calling what's-his-name tech guy a 'douche'

-Hated the moment after Gretchen tells Michael that Sara is alive, the whole thing felt uneven, and then when he gasps 'Sara' it was totally fake imo.  They should have let Went fool around with it and chosen the best most believable reaction shot.

-Loved Sara quoting the Odyssey.

-Loved Sucre holding his baby.  Where was Maricruz, though?  They couldn't get her for a two minute scene?

-Hey Dom.  I heard your accent baby :)  Sexy you should keep it in.

-Big time loved the Michael/Sara reunion.  I thought it was perfectly played by both of them.  I loved that he touched her face and lips before the kiss.  Do the writers read fan fiction?  Because it kinda felt like something I've read before.  Beautifully done.  Loved that there were no words.

-Annoyed that the Sex was only implied.  It felt like putting puzzle pieces together.   I had to watch that scene with the bed like three times before I put it all together.  Sara under covers.  Michael dressed bringing Chinese take-out.  Candles lit... definitely post coital, but it was painful trying to figure it out.

Having said that...

- Loved that they were having post coital take-out chinese.  Again, have the writers been reading fan fiction, because this is definitely a scenario I've read before.

-Really loved all the kissing and her look after he said, 'I thought I was never going to see you again.'  Heartbreaking.

-I think I saw tongue :)  Kudos to Went and Sarah for making it look real and not staged.  Sexy.

- Loved that there is a boat and Sara sleeps there.  Hmmm more fan fiction references.  How many times has it happened on a boat?  Don't answer that!

- I'm giving the writers a break with regards to the scars and the fact that they are discussed after the sex.  Perhaps she didn't want to take her shirt all the way off?  It was blousy maybe he just pulled it up... maybe she was on her back.  maybe. maybe.  maybe.

Oh shoot gotta run. More later :)

Things I did today to pass the time...

1.  Went to take class on my day off.  I'll be better off tomorrow, when we go to run act I of Don Q, but still.  How many 3 day week-ends do I get a year?  Yeah, not that many.

2.  Took a nap with Douglas (See picture)
213

3.  Took the car to the dealership in an effort to sort out some of the paperwork for the class-action-maybe-we'll-get-$4000-back-from-an-expensive-repair-suit.  Dealership was closed :(

4.  Went to Lowe's to price some items we need for several home improvements we have planned.  Got lost for over an hour.  I think I'm the only woman I know who enjoys home improvement shopping more than shoe shopping.  While I was there I looked at bathroom stuff, garage stuff, organizing stuff in general, front doors and cabinetry.  Whoa.

5.  Went to Target to look for some over the door shoe organizers.  Hmmm they don't have them in this part of the country :(   Ended up checking out some cute (sexy) shoes they had instead.  Ah-hem, I guess I do like shoe shopping after all.

Things to do in the next three hours:

1. Clean the deck

2. Pay bills and balance checking account (ewe I really hate this!)

3. Mow the lawn (Maybe)

4.   Make special dinner and brownies.

5.  Vacuum

As of right now, we are at the 24 hour, 42 minute mark here in the states.

I'm still trying to decide what to eat at the watch party.  Brownies are a must since they date all the way back to my love affair with 'Party of Five' and then later 'Alias' ...  I'm so glad I have dinner plans tonight because it is going to be tomorrow before I know it!  I can't believe the wait is almost over.

Last week I went on tour with the ballet to S. Korea.  Today I am back and more jet lagged than can be properly described.  I crossed the international dateline - twice - and in coming back traveled for something like 42 hours, and still arrived the same day.  I'm thinking they somehow owed us extra per diem there even if it was still Friday all those hours later.  Ugh!

Anyway after going back for like 10 pages on my F-list, I'm totally jazzed but a bit at a loss from all the action in the PB fandom.  I mean, I'm gone for only a week and this place goes completely bat-shit crazy.  Some of the stuff I'm seeing, I know not from where it came... I don't even know what to say, other than wtf??????

The World Gone Mad (RL rant)

I don't think I heard about this until yesterday, although it seems to have happened on Monday in Tulsa, where I live.  This is a sad story, and I'd suggest you discontinue reading if you are not in the mood for a shockingly upsetting story.  I'm sorry, but I really just need to take a moment and get it out.

Two days ago an infant was left unattended by his mother and grandmother in a baby swing in a room with two puppies.  Police are saying he was left unattended for an hour and a half.  Evidently the infant was later found dead, mauled to death by a lab puppy that was between 8 and 12 weeks old.  The suspect puppy, according to what one of our friends has told us, must have thought the swing was some sort of a game and somehow managed to pull the baby out if it, and then shaking (like dogs do with their toys) managed to snap the babies neck.  The lab was immediately euthanized by animal control.  I think they have since done an autopsy that supports this story.

My heart, right now is feeling shattered.  I'm very angry at the parents of the child for being so irresponsible.  I'm beyond frustrated that a baby animal, even if guilty is being held accountable.   I know that animals are euthanized every day in this country just because no home can be found, but still... The entire thing is appalling.  I don't know what else to say.

Purse Meme - stolen from basically everyone

Winks

Okay so currently I'm rotating two purses - and they are both poised beside the door ready to roll - I was using the brown leather one yesterday, although half my stuff was still in the burgundy tote ergo the pic with both purses...

Going row by row since I don't know how to label anything:

Back row: (curving from L to R):

1. Pink Vera Bradley make-up bag - I've had this for years and it is totally worn out.

2. Brown leather purse from Florence - my sole souvenir bought back from our trip last year - love love love it!

3.  Burgundy Vera Bradley bucket tote - seriously the best purchase I have made in years!   It is the only thing I take with me as a carry-on on an airplane and it fits literally everything but the kitchen sink and ... well... a laptop.   It went everywhere we did on our three week European tour and Cruise last year, to Spain this year twice, and  all over the beaches of Mexico.  It has tons of pockets and goes with almost anything.  I lurve it!   I've used it almost exclusively this summer - only opting for the brown leather on special occasions :)

4. Salvador Bachiller wallet from Spain -  I found this while visiting the in-laws this year.  It is kinda wierd with all the prints and the soft leather but I kinda dig it.  Ps - I'm not really that into labels - contrary to how this must sound sorry :(

Second row:

5. Picture CD from Cabo San Lucas 2008 - My pics of Baja

6.  Cell Phone

7. Camera Case (empty since I'm taking the pics) - Sony 6.0 Cybershot is my work horse for the last 2 years - was b-day present from my parents.

8. Sony Reader - this was a X-mas gift from my hubby.   Since we travel so much and I fill my suitcases with books... instead I have about 30-something books on the reader.  It is genius for traveling!

9. Sunglasses - these are nothing special but I feel like Jackie O in them :) My husband makes fun of me and says I look like a bee

10. I-pod circa 2005

11.  Brown leather change purse (I run around with cash in this so I don't have to carry a wallet or purse at the farmers market

Almost front row:

12.  Random Grocery list

13. Tickets to Phantom of the Opera for our anniversary (one week away)

14.  roll of quarters for the car wash

15.  Burts Bees lip balm

16. Pen

17. Glob of travel items:  wet wipes, soap sheets, burt's bees vanishing facial powder tissues, & simply sleep for overnight international travel.

18. Keys to my bike lock since I'm going green and riding a bike everywhere as gas prices soar.

19.  Car and house keys with best buy rewards on keychain, and I love San Francisco keychain.

Very front:

20.  High Speed Ave train ticket from globtrotting in Spain.

21.  Clips and hair elastics since we ballet dancers don't go very far without having to secure our hair!

It has been a long 7+ years in the United States.  Honestly - it is not my fault- I voted for Al Gore and John Kerry but what can you do?   Personally I'm sick and tired of the pure embarassment of George W - not to mention the criminally unjustified war - and sinking economy.  Sometimes I wonder if it can get any worse but that is surely a question I'd rather not have the answer to...

So I was one of the people who helped Hilary win the Democratic primary in Oklahoma, but in the end that couldn't save her.   I really believe she would make a better president than Barack, however, that particular debate is just beating a dead horse.   I'm happy to see the Democratic party pulling their shit together but I'm so sick of the frakking political analyzing - can Barack just pick a running mate and get it over with?  18 million votes later, I have a hard time imagining a better choice than Hilary, but there are so many who disagree with this reasoning - particularly since the Clintons seem  to mobilize the Republicans like no other Democrats... But still -STILL- she earned that VP position fair and square if you ask me and I'm just tired by the endless debate of who will be chosen.  Okay, that's it, getting down off the podium now.

Winks
We're drowning here in the U.S. - especially in the middle of the country.  I'm not literally in the flood zone, but the sheer amount of rainfall that we have had is ridiculous.  We are about 20 inches above the normal range.   It is global warming, of that I am certain, and can I just say that it is getting worse...  Secondly, after another spirited downpour, I found a tarantula in my driveway the other day.  Ewe.  I had goosbumps in the unholiest of places.  I always knew we had them here in Oklahoma, but for some reason I thought I might never see one since I live in the city.   I couldn't have been more wrong.   It is big and hairy, and *definitely* a tarantula.  Now, I am generally a pacifist, and lover of all creatures great and small, but this totally goes out the window when it comes to spiders and certain creepy crawly things.  I am terrified of spiders.  Honestly this thing was half dead (probably half drowned in truth) and barely put up a fight but I still ran into the house got my trusty can of raid and doused him until he turned white.  Again, and again, and again.  He probably died 3 times.  Anyway, I am now the owner of one dead tarantula that lives in a pace picante jar.  According to what I have read, the 'oklahoma brown tarantula' is extremely docile and makes a great pet.  This is especially true in my case.  Also, despite the shaking, I took pictures:
My husband is out of town and was completely mortified :(

On a slightly less frightened note, I've discovered a new show that I totally <3  SCI-FI is not usually  my thing, but Battlestar Galactica pretty much had me at hello.  I've rented the DVD's starting from the very beginning - and developed a quick obsession.   I think this is due largely in part to Katee Sackhoff and her kick ass rendition of Kara Thrace/Starbuck.  As usual, I'm a sucker for a female character who can hold her own - throw a punch, hotwire a car... you name it.   In any event, she is all this and then a whole lot of tongue if you know what I mean.
